The Annual Quilt Show 2016 in Young was held last weekend 21-22 May at the Young Town Hall! Some incredible art quilts contributed by Australians from near and far were displayed and presented on stage.
New patchworkers and young women just starting off quilting were inspired and encouraged to submit a quilt in every show, no matter how advanced their skills are. Seeing the modern quilts displayed on the stage was enough to get you inspired to plan a contemporary quilting block!
It was great seeing our customers from Canberra and speaking to the ladies who started the show 6 years ago, Jenny and Carmel.
The challenge of this year’s quilt show was to enter a quilt which featured a technique called churn style. Each quilter had incorporated it into their quilt very uniquely; the traditional square churn style, or slightly elongated in a border, one was repeated 3 times on a textile art quilt in tiny sections. The quilter was also given the same single piece of fabric which had to be used somewhere in the quilt – even if it was just the colour theme. All appreciated the hard work and dedication that goes into creating every quilt.
Here are some pictures from Saturday.
